Unrevealed Until Its Season
$14.99Add to cartAuthor James Howell believes in the power of song to teach spiritual truths. “Hymns embed faith into the marrow of the soul,” he writes. In Unrevealed Until Its Season, Howell takes readers on a 40-day journey through popular songs of the church.
Reflecting on well-loved hymn phrases, Howell helps readers discover who God is and what following Jesus means. A great Lenten devotional guide for individuals, small groups, and church choirs, this book is an invaluable resource-and perfect gift-for musicians as they prepare for worship, and for ministers as they preach and lead worship.
The weekly themes include Praising God, Hymns About Jesus, Hymns of Forgiveness, Hymns of Vision, Hymns of Beauty, Hymns of Holy Week, and Hymns of Easter. Howell ponders phrases from hymns old and new, such as “Be Thou My Vision,” “Hymn of Promise,” “All Creatures of Our God and King,” “For Everyone Born,” “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” “Lift High the Cross,” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.”

Diverse Yet United
$15.95Add to cartAs disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to dialogue and encounter. We are expected to be welcoming and open to all people, including those who think differently from us or who hold conflicting opinions. We are also called to share the Truth, which is God’s love for us in Jesus Christ.
“[Jesus] asks us not to fix our gaze on what divides us, but rather on what unites us, seeking to know and love Jesus better and to share the richness of his love,” Pope Francis writes in Diverse yet United: Communicating Truth in Charity.
Jesus’ love spurs us to dialogue, helping us to listen to one another and to get to know others. His love becomes the foundation of human solidarity and renders us capable of overcoming the barriers of our own weaknesses and prejudices. Jesus’ love within us creates bridges, teaches new paths, and triggers the dynamism of fraternity.
Pope Francis invites us to communicate the Lord’s merciful love to the whole world: “We too are given the gift of the ‘tongue’ of the Gospel and the ‘fire’ of the Holy Spirit, so that as we proclaim the risen Jesus, alive and present among us, we may warm our hearts and the hearts of peoples, bringing them closer to him, the way, the truth, and the life.”

It introduces children to the concept of the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy. Finally the book holds a big surprise for children at the end, which will remind adults of a famous scripture quote from Hebrews 13:2 about angels.

Blue Collar Apologetics
$19.95Add to cartMost of us know what we believe as Catholics, but often we’re unclear on why we believe it. At a time when vast numbers of Catholics are slipping away from the Faith, God has tasked you and countless other Catholics with understanding it so you will be prepared to defend it.
With an easygoing and inviting style, EWTN’s John Martignoni doesn’t simply introduce you to the major doctrines of the Catholic Faith; he explains why they are true and shows you how to explain them effectively to Protestants and “cafeteria Catholics” alike in ways that will draw them into those truths.
Far from a complex survey of obscure theological points, this lively book employs clear, simple language that not only demonstrates the fundamental fact that the Bible is a Catholic book, but also teaches Catholics how to “talk Bible” to non-Catholics. When you are done with this book, you will know the biblical basis for the Church’s teachings on the sacraments, Purgatory, Mary, the papacy, and why salvation requires faith and works. You’ll also be versed in the strategies for effectively challenging others to examine their beliefs in light of the overwhelming scriptural evidence for Catholicism.
Blue Collar Apologetics will also teach you:
*How to go on the offensive without being offensive
*The rules of engagement for discussing the faith with others
*Four techniques that will allow you to talk to anyone about your faith
*An easy tactic anyone can use for engaging non-Catholics
*How to explain the Marian dogmas using the Bible and common sense
*The two key “pillars of Protestantism” — and how to respond to each
*How to counter the ingrained Protestant maxim “Once saved, always saved”
*The basics of Eastern Orthodoxy, which every Catholic needs to master
*Effective, common sense tactics for defending the Faith against atheist attacks
This book empowers the average person in the pews?even those who might not know where Genesis is in the Bible!?to engage in evangelization and “talk Bible,” even with the most learned Baptist minister.

Michael O’Brien was raised in the 1970s by a single mother…and by monks. He wrote down his memories of the monastery when it closed in 2017, intending to memorialize his Trappist friends. What he really did, however, was document his own formation, specifically how a childhood spent with Trappists revealed a path on which the author learned to live a life as a man of faith, hope, and love.

Ezra And Nehemiah
$29.95Add to cartEzra-Nehemiah has been neglected in biblical studies, but it is important as one of the few windows into the Persian period of Israel’s history, the setting for so much of the final shape of the Hebrew Bible. To know this period is to know what influenced these redactors. In Ezra and Nehemiah Gordon Davies provides that knowledge using rhetorical criticism, a methodology that reveals the full range and progress of the book’s ideas without hiding its rough seams and untidy edges.
The purpose of rhetorical criticism is to explain not the source but the power of the text as a unitary message. This approach does not look at plot development, characterization, or other elements whose roughness makes Ezra-Nehemiah frustrating to read. Instead, it examines the three parts of the relationship – the strategies, the situations, and the ffects – between the speaker and the audience. Rhetorical criticism’s scrutiny of the audience in context favors the search for the ideas and structures that are indigenous to the culture of the text.
Rhetorical criticism is interested in figures of speech as means of persuasion. Therefore, to apply it to Ezra-Nehemiah, Davies concentrates on the public discourse – the orations, letters, and prayers – throughout its text. In each chapter he follows a procedure that: (1) where it is unclear, identifies the rhetorical unit in which the discourse is set; (2) identifies the audiences of the discourse and the rhetorical situation; (3) studies the arrangement of the material; (4) studies the effect on the various audiences; (5) reviews the passage as a whole and judges its success. In the conclusion, Davies explains that Ezra-Nehemiah makes theological sense on its own terms, by forming a single work in which a range of ideas is argued.
Biblical scholars as well as those interested in literary criticism, communication studies, rhetorical studies, ecclesiology, and homiletics will find Ezra and Nehemiah enlightening.

40 Parables Of Jesus
$29.95Add to cartIn this book, which covers all of Jesus’ parables, award-winning author Gerhard Lohfink takes a closer look at the origins of each one-its shape, its realistic details, but most of all its original message and the situation into which it was once spoken. Jesus’ parables speak in bold images of the kingdom of God, making it present to us as they reveal something of the mystery of his own person.
Lohfink also offers a review of some of the scholarship in this area-as this topic has sustained research on Jesus since the first telling of these stories-but not for the purposes of debate. His reflections interpret the forty parables and show how they speak of the coming of the reign of God, lead us to Jesus, and reveal the mystery of Jesus himself.

Art Of Indigenous Inculturation
$30.00Add to cartThis breathtakingly beautiful, scholarly, and thought-provoking book is basically about one thing: doing justice to the incarnation. It is the doctrine that confesses not only that God became human, but that God became flesh, became material, thereby signifying the holiness of all God’s creation. It is with this conviction that Antonio Sison embarks on a quest to ‘midwife’ the ‘indigenous inculturation’ present in a triptych of images from the ‘folk Catholic imaginary’ in Nairobi in Kenya, Chicago in the United States, and Manila in the Philippines. His purpose is, with a rich hermeneutic of suspicion, generosity, and serendipity, to bring the edges of theologizing to the center. In doing so, however, he reveals to us that, instead of a new theological hegemony (marginal replacing the center), the edges are actually the center.–From the Foreword by Stephen B. Bevans, SVD

Baptism : A Guide To Life From Death
$15.99Add to cartYou’ve been baptized. But do you understand what it means?
Baptism is the doorway into membership in the church. It’s a public declaration of the washing away of our sin and the beginning of our new life in Christ. But the sacrament that is meant to unite us is often a spring of division instead.
All Christians use water to baptize. All invoke the triune name. Beyond that, there’s little consensus. Talk about baptism and you’re immediately plunged into arguments. Whom should we baptize? What does baptism do? Why even do it at all?
Peter Leithart reunifies a church divided by baptism. He recovers the baptismal imagination of the Bible, explaining how baptism works according to Scripture. Then, in conversation with Christian tradition, he shows why baptism is something worth recovering and worth agreeing on.

Diary Of Jesus Christ
$20.00Add to cartWhile obviously not really the diary of Jesus Christ, here is a first-person account of the life of Jesus by noted Jesuit playwright Bill Cain. The diary places us inside Jesus’s consciousness, where the spirit of discovery, surprise, learning, doubt, failure and growth is in sharp contrast to the canonical gospels where Jesus seems, from the start, self-assured and even predestined to fulfill his role. It is a bold attempt to understand the person whom more than two billion people claim as their savior.
