Expositio Missae : The Mysteries Of The Mass Explained
$19.95Add to cartThe Mass is a central and essential part of the Christian life, the very source and summit of our devotion and piety. Instituted by Jesus Himself at the Last Supper and faithfully passed on by the apostles and their successors, it is not merely a memorial of the passion, death, and resurrection of our Savior, but a true participation in His one redeeming sacrifice. It does not merely praise and invoke God, but causes Him to be really, truly, and substantially present. It is through the Mass that we become closest to Jesus, and mystically partake in His passion, death, and resurrection. It is through the Mass that we receive the “Bread of the Angels,” which imparts to our fragile human nature the eternal life of God Himself.
Saint Bonaventure’s Expositio Missae (“Exposition of the Mass”) offers inspiring and touching insight into the multiple layers of meaning and symbolism embodied within the sacred actions of the Eucharistic celebration. Also offered in this volume are some of the Seraphic Doctor’s beautiful and passionate prayers, including those to be said before Mass, before the reception of Holy Communion, and after Mass. As Saint Bonaventure says, with this book, you will be able to “hear the most holy Mass with the greatest possible devotion and reverence.”

Nicholas Black Elk
$19.95Add to cartServant of God Nicholas Black Elk (1863 – 1950)’s legacy is popularly celebrated for his fascinating spiritual life. How could one man, one deeply spiritual man, serve as both a traditional Oglala Lakota medicine man and a Roman Catholic catechist and mystic? How did these two spiritual and cultural identities enrich his prayer life? How did his commitment to God, understood through his Lakota and Catholic communities, shape his understanding of how to be in the world?
But, to fully understand the depth of Black Elk’s life-long spiritual quest requires a deep appreciation of his life story. He witnessed devastation on the battlefields of Little Bighorn and the Massacre at Wounded Knee, but also extravagance while performing for Queen Victoria as a member of “Buffalo Bill” Cody’s Wild West Show. Widowed by his first wife, he later shared a home with his second wife and their eight children. Black Elk’s spiritual visions granted him wisdom and healing insight as a child, yet he grew progressively physically blind in his adult years. These stories, and countless more, offer insight into this extraordinary man whose cause for canonization is now underway at the Vatican.

Fratelli Tutti : On Fraternity And Social Friendship
$12.95Add to cartIn his third encyclical, Fratelli tutti, Pope Francis reflects on a topic of great importance: human solidarity and friendship. Following his election to the papacy, Pope Francis first greeted the world with the words fratelli e sorelle – “brothers and sisters.” In this encyclical, he continues to address all men and women as his brothers and sisters, calling us to consider what our common brotherhood requires of us.
Pope Francis has shown repeatedly that he is dedicated to promoting friendship among all people. Fratelli tutti follows his 2019 signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi. And at the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Pope Francis prayed for the salvation of all people in his extraordinary “Urbi et Orbi” address in an empty St. Peter’s Square.
The Holy Father calls us to live out our Christian duty to see the face of Jesus in our neighbors, recognizing everyone we meet as a brother or sister. In this encyclical, Pope Francis reminds us of our “(blessed) common belonging.” By fostering a genuine affection for all, we reaffirm the dignity of every human person created in the image and likeness of God.

Saint Joseph And His World
$19.95Add to cartThere are few subjects so challenging” to authors as St. Joseph. So says scholar Scott Hahn in his foreword to this book. Yet the pages that follow give not merely glimpses, but vistas, of St. Joseph’s world. Hahn continues: “You’ll learn about Nazareth – and how it was created almost ex nihilo shortly before Joseph’s birth. You’ll learn about religious practice and education in that place and time. You’ll travel to Egypt and encounter the fascinating settlements of Jews in that land. You’ll also find out how a carpenter worked in those days: what tools he used, what items he crafted, where he got his training, and how he got to and from his job sites.” This book provides an imaginative entry into one of the most important lives in all of history – a life too often obscured by later legends.
Scott Hahn says in his forword – What we discover between the lines is that there were, in the first century bc, two guiding hands in history: there was the providential hand of the Lord God working God’s will, and there was the demonic hand of Satan manipulating the mad King Herod. As a result, there were two rival accounts of kingship, two rival ideas of temple-building, and two rival stories of salvation. Joseph was not the only Jew to recognize this dualism, but he was perhaps the most important one. Those who recognized it were forced to make difficult choices-and face terrifying consequences.

Grumpy Old Ox
$16.95Add to cartThis new children’s Christmas book by bestselling author Anthony DeStefano tells the story of a mean-spirited, prideful old ox who has lost his sight-both physically and spiritually-but who nevertheless experiences the transformative power of God’s grace after he witnesses the birth of Jesus Christ in a humble stable in Bethlehem.
Illustrated by New York Times bestselling artist Richard Cowdrey, this new holiday book teaches children the true meaning of Christmas while also explaining the central message of Christianity: that faith in Jesus leads us to resurrection and new life.
Moreover, it shows the profound connection between spiritual pride and blindness. Like the main character in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, this Scrooge of an ox is a slave to his own anger and crippled by his own coldness. He seems destined to live out his days frustrated, unhappy and alone-until he makes a life-altering decision of faith that brings him the miraculous gift of healing and joy.
This uplifting, inspiring book will delight all Christians, though Catholics especially will appreciate its powerful Eucharistic message. Connecting the manger in the stable, from which the ox eats his food, to birth of the Son of God, the story shows that Jesus is the Bread of Life; that he came into the world to feed the hungry, to restore sight to the blind, and to set free those who are captive to sin.
All of this is contained in a 32-page picture book that is sure to entertain and enthrall children with its adorable rhymes and beautiful illustrations for years to come.

With One Accord
$15.95Add to cart“All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer” (Acts 1:14).
The apostles and early Christians believed and worshiped in unity-in doctrine and practice following Jesus’ wish that “they may be one” (John 17:21).
But today, Christianity is splintered by the Reformation and its 500-year legacy of division, with Protestant groups divided among themselves and separated from Catholicism by a set of seemingly non-negotiable differences. Traditionally, Catholic apologetics has tried to bridge that separation by using Scripture, history, and logic to help Protestants see the truth of Church teaching.
In With One Accord, former Evangelical professor Douglas Beaumont takes another approach: working for accord with Protestants by reasoning from the things they already believe and do. Using principles that orthodox, Bible-believing Protestants broadly affirm, he arrives at particulars of Catholic belief-showing that in many cases the division isn’t as wide or deep as we thought.
Splitting the difference between ecumenism and apologetics, With One Accord is a sign of hope for Christian unity and a great resource for Catholics looking to have friendly and productive conversations with their Protestant friend

Wisdom Pattern : Order, Disorder, Reorder

Knowing the full pattern allows us to let go of our first order, trust the disorder, and, sometimes even hardest of all–to trust the new reorder. Three big leaps of faith for all of us, and each of a different character.” –from the introduction
A universal pattern can be found in all societies and in fact in all of creation. We see it in the seasons of the year; the stories of Scripture; the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus; the rise and fall of civilizations; and even in our own lives. In this new version of one of his earlier books, Father Richard Rohr illuminates the way understanding and embracing this pattern can give us hope in difficult times and the courage to push through messiness and even great chaos to find a new way of being in the world.

Family Examine
$4.00Add to cartThe Family Examine is a beautifully illustrated story book. Full color.
This short story book is actually a prayer, not a story. Based on the Ignatian Examine, The Family Examine will take our family through this powerful mediation, together. Along with prompts for the examine, each day also features the incredible art of Jen Olson, which depicts an image of the Holy Family. Therefore, the Holy Family is your real guide through this powerful exercise.
As we worked on this book, here is how I dreamt this book would be used:
A parent grabs the book and sits down on the couch. Kids snuggle in. The family makes the sign of the cross and then the parent open the book and reads the opening prayer. Now the family begins the Examine together. On the first page they pause and silently become aware that God is present. Next, the family recalls and shares one beautiful thing they experienced. Next, each person shares a way that they felt love today, and then sorrow and finally grace. Maybe not everyone will share for each topic, but together the family will recall the way God worked in their life that day.
The book concludes with a prayer for your family.
It’s simple and beautiful. And the art on each page will inspire you as you recall they way God was present in your day.

Liminal Papacy Of Pope Francis
$27.00Add to cartAn expert on the papacy and Vatican II, Massimo Faggioli draws from world history, politics, papal biographies, and the documents of Vatican II for this incisive analysis of Francis’s developing pontificate. He notes that Francis’s is a liminal papacy, one that gives attention to the poor, to the peripheries, and to relations between the Vatican and other religions, with an emphasis on synodality and on the Church as the people of God. He also contrasts Francis with his immediate predecessor Benedict XVI and John Paul II, and shows his similarities with the spirit of John XXIII, the architect of Vatican II.

Beyond Measure : The Poetics Of The Image In Bernard Of Clairvaux
$39.95Add to cartBernard continually returns to the classical idea that the quality of desire shapes theological imagination. By attending to the multiple ways he develops and applies this insight, Beyond Measure uncovers a new depth of organic unity to the literary, philosophical, and theological strands densely interwoven through his writings. Bernard’s apparent iconoclasm with respect to art, affectivity, and the humanity of Jesus is revealed as an alternative mystical aesthetic, congruent with his program for monastic reform. The central movement of Cistercian spirituality from the carnal to the spiritual is shown not to elide but to recapitulate the carnal in higher spiritual expression. Further, this approach provides fresh understanding of the ways in which Bernard is at once “last of the fathers” and “first of the moderns.” In particular, a careful reading of works by Julia Kristeva and Jean-Luc Marion on Bernard reveals both the enduring brightness and vitality of his writing and the relevance of his work for people today.

Meal That Reconnects
$29.95Add to cartIn The Meal that Reconnects, Dr. Mary McGann, RSCJ, invites readers to a more profound appreciation of the sacredness of eating, the planetary interdependence that food and the sharing of food entails, and the destructiveness of the industrial food system that is supplying food to tables globally. She presents the food crisis as a spiritual crisis–a call to rediscover the theological, ecological, and spiritual significance of eating and to probe its challenge to Christian eucharistic practice. Drawing on the origins of Eucharist in Jesus’s meal fellowship and the worship of early Christians, McGann invites communities to reclaim the foundational meal character of eucharistic celebration while offering pertinent strategies for this renewal.
