Remaining In The Truth Of Christ
$12.95Add to cartIn this volume five cardinals of the Church, and four other scholars, respond to the call issued by Walter Cardinal Kasper for the Church to harmonize “fidelity and mercy in its pastoral practice with civilly remarried, divorced people”. The contributors are Walter Cardinal Brandmuller; Raymond Cardinal Burke; Carlo Cardinal Caffarra; Velasio Cardinal De Paolis, C.S.; Robert Dodaro, O.S.A.; Paul Mankowski, S.J.; Gerhard Cardinal Muller; John M. Rist; and Archbishop Cyril Vasil’, S.J.
Cardinal Kasper appeals to early Church practice in order to support his view. The contributors bring their wealth of knowledge and expertise to bear upon this question, concluding that the Bible and the Church Fathers do not support the kind of “toleration” of civil marriages following divorce advocated by Cardinal Kasper. They also examine the Eastern Orthodox practice ofoikonomia (understood as “mercy” implying “toleration”) in cases of remarriage after divorce and in the context of the vexed question of Eucharistic Communion. The book traces the long history of Catholic resistance to this practice, revealing the serious theological and pastoral difficulties it poses in past and current Orthodox Church practice.
As the authors demonstrate, traditional Catholic doctrine, based on the teaching of Jesus himself, and current pastoral practice are not at odds with genuine mercy and compassion. The authentic “gospel of mercy” is available through a closer examination of the Church’s teachings.

Spiritual Meaning Of The Liturgy
$29.95Add to cart“I am increasingly convinced that the decisive question that demands an answer from us is not so much how believers experience the liturgy, but whether believers live from the liturgy they celebrate.” With these few words Goffredo Boselli captures the essence of this present work.
Believers can celebrate the liturgy throughout their lifetimes without ever really drawing their lives from it. And this is true of all believers-laity, clergy, or monastics. More than a century after the start of the liturgical movement and half a century after the start of the postconciliar liturgical reform, we must ask the difficult question of whether the liturgy has or has not become the source of the spiritual life of believers. For only by living from the liturgy can they receive the nourishment necessary to maintain a life of faith in today’s world.
In The Spiritual Meaning of the Liturgy, Goffredo Boselli-one of Europe’s foremost liturgical theologians-offers an accessible and important guide for both scholars and interested laypeople to understand the meaning that permeates the liturgy and its implications for daily living. Readers will find here a resource to help understand the liturgy more fully, interiorize it more effectively, and live it more authentically.

Life Abounding : A Reading Of Johns Gospel
$39.95Add to cartThe Fourth Gospel addresses the thirst for life that lies at the depth of every human heart. The life in question is not just physical life but the “more abundant life” (John 10:10) that is nothing less than a share in the “eternal life” of the divine communion of love. Brendan Byrne’s insightful reading of John in Life Abounding will help readers move from mere existence to a conscious sense of sharing the divine eternal life-and the joy that goes with it.
The reading of the Fourth Gospel offered here remains conscious of the difficulties John presents on several fronts for contemporary readers. Byrne explains the text in a way that is critical yet sensitive to the gospel’s distinctive character and the untapped treasures it may yet contain for theology and spirituality today. This volume represents the completion of Byrne’s highly successful series of books on the four gospels, which have proven to be rich resources for preachers, teachers, and all who desire a more profound understanding of the life of Jesus as it is presented in the gospels.

Pope Francis And The Joy Of The Gospel

After Emmaus : Biblical Models For The New Evangelization

New Testament 1 And 2
$36.95Add to cartWorks included: Agreement Among the Evangelists (translated by Kim Paffenroth); Questions on the Gospels (translated by Roland Teske, SJ); Seventeen Questions on Matthew (translated by Roland Teske, SJ); and Lord’s Sermon on the Mount (translated by Michael Campbell, OSA). The present translation of The Lord’s Sermon on the Mount was made from the Latin text published in Nuova Biblioteca Agostiniana X/2, 82 285; it is preceded by a detailed introduction by Salvino Caruana (in Italian) on pp. 7 69. Almut Mutzenbecher’s critical text of the treatise in Corpus Christianorum, Series Latina 35 was consulted in establishing the text for the Italian series. Mutzenbecher’s introduction (in German), although earlier,is a valuable complement to Caruana’s. There are several extant English translations, most notably William Findlay, Our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount, revised and edited by Philip Schaff in A Select Library of the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers of the Christian Church, First Series 6 (New York 1903; repr. 1979) 1 63; John J. Jepson, St. Augustine, The Lord’s Sermon on the Mount (Westminster, Md. 1948) = Ancient Christian Writers 5; Denis J. Kavanagh, Commentary on the Lord’s Sermon on the Mount, with Seventeen Related Sermons (New York 1951) = Fathers of the Church 11, 17 199. The present translation of Agreement among the Evangelists was made from the Latin Text published in Nuova Biblioteca Agostiniana X/1 with an occasional look at S.D.F. Salmond’s English translation, The Harmony of the Gospels, edited by Philip Schaff, in A Select Library of Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers of the Christian Church, First Series 6 (New York 1903, repr. 1979) 77 236. The present translation of Questions on the Gospels was made from the Latin text found in the critical edition by Almut Mutzenbecher in CCSL 44/B, with some attention to the text and translation found in NBA 10/2. Aside from two nineteenth-century French translations in two separate editions, each entitled Oeuvres completes de Saint Augustin (Bar-le-Duc 1864 1873; Paris 1869 1878), and the Italian translation in NBA 10/2, there do not seem to be any translations into modern languages. The present translation of Seventeen Questions on Matthew was made from the Latin text found in the critical edition by Mutzenbecher. The text in NBA was followed in preserving the PL numbering of the questions, while noting the numbering in CCSL. Also included are the concluding paragraphs in the last question that are omitted

Eucharist As Meaning
$34.95Add to cartThis study moves beyond postmodern trends in Catholic eucharistic theology by exploring the works of Bernard Lonergan and Louis-Marie Chauvet: “Having learned from both Chauvet’s critique of metaphysics and Lonergan’s development of a critical metaphysics, we hope to offer a fruitful understanding of traditional eucharistic doctrines that is able to respond to some contemporary problems and shed some light on the great mystery that stands at the center of Christian worship” (from the introduction).
Postmodern theologians have been critical of using metaphysics to interpret the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, liturgical sacrifice, and sacramental causality, preferring instead a symbolic approach. Lonergan’s critical metaphysics, however, offers an account of knowing and being that resists attempts to pit metaphysics against the symbolic and moves sacramental theology into the real world of meaning. The result is a theology of the Eucharist grounded in tradition that speaks to today’s believers.

The subject of “mestizaje”-the in-between-ness of living between two cultures, and belonging at once to both and to neither of the two-is a crucial theme in U.S. Hispanic reflection today, theological as well as not. This book is, as its title says, a basic introduction to the thought of Saint Augustine. But it takes into account the dual roots of Augustine himself, his African mother on the one hand, and his Roman father and Greco-Roman education on the other. These two were at tension throughout his life and help us understand much of the drama leading to his conversion as well as his theology.

Journey Of Faith
$20.99Add to cartHopefully, the reader will gain some insight into the world of spirituality for the years to come and will be motivated to have a closer connection to God and not to religion as such. There are many questions asked but the answers are up to the reader. Richard Money doesn’t expect Journey of Faith to be a record-breaking novel. In fact, the only reason it is being written is because so many people have told Richard over the years that he has a book in him. When is he going to get it out? Well, here it comes, for better or for worse. Journey of Faith is comprised of many incidents in his life that he believes may show not what he has done, but what he has become with the Grace of God. If you are looking for a religious experience, we don’t think you will find it here, although you may. We are not making any promises. Journey of Faith will stimulate the mind to see the real messages of Jesus. What makes this book unique is the ingredients of life, and the events of a married priest after being married, and the training of priests of sixty years ago. If you are seeking the meaning of life and the working of the Holy Spirit this book will truly bring light into your life. All people seeking the Holy Spirit in their lives this is for you. Not only the religious but those on the fence, as it were who may doubt the workings of God in their lives. This book is to be a bridge between God and Man, and to see the manifestations of God in our lives. This is our life in the Journey of Faith.

Saint Paul : Master Of The Spiritual Life In Christ
$29.95Add to cartIn Saint Paul, Elliott C. Maloney explores what the great saint says about the spiritual life, the “how to” in the day-to-day activities and concerns of Christians. How should people live in covenant relationship with God, committed to seeking God’s will in every aspect of their lives? Spirituality is a popular topic, but it is regarded as merely one part of life, some “higher level” of living when compared to ordinary living. Even Catholic scholarship, Maloney argues, notable as it is in Pauline exegesis and theology, seems to lack a feel for the overall kind of living that Paul wanted for his communities, not to mention how we might appropriate such wisdom for today. For Paul, all of a believer’s life is spiritual life. The alternative is a life “according to the flesh,” a self-centered life without God, a continual spiritual death. Based on over forty years of teaching and study of the Pauline letters, Maloney’s Saint Paul offers a rich vision of Christianity and the spiritual life “in Christ.”

1 Minute Aquinas
$19.95Add to cartPope St. Pius X said that “in just one year, a man can derive more profit from the works of St. Thomas Aquinas than from a lifetime studying the works of others.”
If you don’t have a year to study the more than 3,000+ pages St. Thomas wrote, then turn to The One-Minute Aquinas, the fast-paced book that provides busy readers with simple, readable explanations of the truths that, for 750 years now, have caused the works of St. Thomas to be sought out by kings and popes, scholars and saints, as well as by ordinary souls like you hungry to know God and to love him more and more.
In this book’s lucid pages, author Kevin Vost gives you mall, digestible portions of St. Thomas’s life-giving wisdom that you can enjoy one minute at a time. Tables and graphics will help you grasp and remember St. Thomas’s key ideas with a minimum of time and effort.
Best of all, in The One-Minute Aquinas you’ll find quick, sure refutations of the countless relativistic, secular, and pseudoscientific ideas that are so influential in our culture today and so shallow, contradictory, and wrong!
Pope John Paul II declared that “The Church has been justified in consistently proposing St. Thomas as a master of thought and a model of the right way to do theology.” Now The One-Minute Aquinas enables even those with limited time and only a modest education to benefit from the wisdom of this great saint.
Here, with minimal effort and among scores of other things, you’ll finally come to know and understand: Why God permits evil, Why He created t he universe, His power and (yes!) its limits. Why Jesus let Himself be tempted. How you can grow quickly in virtue. The natural law and the Commandments. The causes of lust (and how to remedy it). Aquinas’s five simple proofs that God exists Grace: did you know there are six kinds?
Temperance (and what it does not forbid) Fortitude, and the virtues that strengthen it Mary: can she really be the Mother of God? And more!

$16.95Add to cartIn this practical guide to marriage, learn the “secrets” of building a sound, spiritual relationship with your fianc or spouse from toothpaste in the sink to natural family planning.
In the Foreword, Father Kenneth Baker praises the book as both practical and faithful: “This handbook is outstanding both for its practicality and for its fidelity to the Catholic faith. It is practical because it offers good suggestions on most aspects of married life, such as the wedding, the honeymoon, the relationship between husband and wife, in-laws, finances, raising children, sexual relations, practicing the faith, and developing a spiritual life of personal relations with God.
The handbook is also thoroughly Catholic. It offers excellent advice on how to live the Catholic faith as a married man or woman. There is no waffling here, no dissent, no ambiguity. The author spells out clearly what the Catholic Church expects of married people in the areas of married life, sexuality, and family life.”

Saint Peters Bones
$16.00Add to cartIn this fascinating account of the search for the remains of the world’s first pope, none other than Peter, the chief apostle of Jesus, Thomas J. Craughwell takes us on one of the most exciting archaeological finds of the twentieth century.
In 1448 a team of architects and engineers brought Pope Nicholas V unhappy news: the 1,100-year-old Basilica of St. Peter suffered from so many structural defects that it was beyond repair. The only solution was to pull down the old church–one of the most venerable churches in all of Christiandom–and erect a new basilica on the site. Incredibly, one of the tombs the builders paved over was the resting place of St. Peter.
Then in 1939, while reconstructing the grottoes below St. Peter’s Basilica, a workman’s shovel struck not dirt or rock but open air. After inspecting what could be seen through the hole they’d made in the mausoleum’s roof, Pope Pius XII secretly authorized a full-scale excavation. What lay beneath? The answer and the adventure await. In this riveting history, facts, traditions, and faith collide to reveal the investigation, betrayals, and mystery behind St. Peter’s burial place.

$19.95Add to cartDrawing on the lives of some of the greatest political, intellectual and religious leaders of modern times, and the author’s personal experience, Virtuous Leadership demonstrates that leadership and virtue are not only compatible, they are actually synonymous.
Virtuous Leadership defines each of the classical human virtues most essential to leadership – magnanimity, humility, prudence, courage, self-control and justice. It demonstrates how these virtues promote personal transformation and the attainment of self-fulfillment. It also considers the Christian supernatural virtues of faith, hope and charity without which no study of leadership can be complete.
The book’s final section, Towards Victory, offers a methodology for the achievement of interior growth tailored to the needs of busy, professional people intent on imbuing their lives with a transcendent purpose. Thus, the aim of Virtuous Leadership is ultimately practical. It is meant to be your guidebook in the quest for excellence.

Cartas De San Pablo II Y Carta – (Spanish)
$14.99Add to cartIn many ways, Paul was an activist with the message to live as peaceful followers of Christ. Unfortunately, Paul had to confront others who believed he was rejecting his Jewish roots, and his message of peace caused him a great deal of suffering. Paul preaches of unity, love for Christ, moral living, and the Second Coming. He warns of false teachers, promotes vigilance in the wait for Christ, and blesses these communities throughout his letter writing, from his earliest letters, up until those he penned shortly before his death. Paul’s encouragement, his advice for faithful living, and his love for Christ speak to us today as clearly as they did for the early Christians. The Spanish-language study is a condensed series of 12 books introducing each and every book of the Bible, providing insight into the Sacred Words of antiquity, and inviting us to discover the living Word and its impact on our daily lives. With narrative, study and questions, reflections, keynotes, and prayer, your understanding of the Scripture will be deepened with the introduction to the spiritual practice of lectio divina.

Last Words Of Jesus
$16.99Add to cartMuch has been written on the last words of Jesus, the traditional phrases taken from Scripture that depict the final moments of Jesus’s life as he dies on the cross. In this new take on the last words, author Dan Horan brings a fresh perspective to this time-honored meditation as he challenges readers to look at their lives through the lens of Jesus s suffering and death. Yet interlaced with suffering, the focus throughout is on the immense love of God for human beings, shown in the gift of Jesus, God made flesh.
In his preface, Horan writes: “In a world that remains irrevocably shaped by the suffering of the human condition, the misunderstanding between groups and cultures symbolized by the horrific events of September 11, we need to hear Christ’s words anew. He gives us a different look into these words by drawing on works by other noted scholars and spiritual writers, then fashioning a view of these phrases that s contemporary and thought-provoking.
An ideal Lenten companion, especially during Holy Week, The Last Words of Jesus will also serve as a useful meditation throughout the year on the deep love Jesus bore for us in taking on the human condition.

Sisters In The Wilderness
$30.00Add to cartThis landmark work first published 20 years ago helped establish the field of African-American womanist theology and is widely regarded as a classic text. Drawing on the biblical figure of Hagar mother of Ishmael, cast into the desert by Abraham and Sarah, but protected by God Williams finds a proptype for the struggle of African-American women. African slave, homeless exile, surrogate mother, Hagar’s story provides an image of survival and defiance appropriate to black women today. Exploring the themes implicit in Hagar’s story poverty and slavery, ethnicity and sexual exploitation, exile and encounter with God Williams traces parallels in the history of African-American women from slavery to the present day. A new womanist theology emerges from this shared experience, from the interplay of oppressions on account of race, sex and class. Sisters in the Wilderness offers a telling critique of theologies that promote liberation but ignore women of color. This is a book that defined a new theological project and charted a path that others continue to explore.

Lumen Fidei The Light Of Faith
$13.00Add to cartAn encyclical, or papal letter, is one of the most important formal documents from the Vatican and in this special paperback edition, with a foreword by Scott Hahn, Pope Francis issues his first, reflecting on the nature of belief and the need for a renewal of faith for a bright future of charity and love for all.
Pope Francis has spoken of Lumen Fidei as the work of “four hands,” his own and those of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. This highly anticipated encyclical begun by the previous Pope and completed by the new leader of the Catholic Church explores the need for a renewal in our universal commitments to truth and love. “The light of Faith: this is how the Church’s tradition speaks of the great gift brought by Jesus,” the Pope writes. “In John’s Gospel, Christ says of himself: ‘I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.'” Here is an illuminating work, an invitation to lead a more spiritual and faith based life, a reminder that with faith comes healing and with healing comes heaven on earth.
